How Do You Live

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my friend Sadath’s passing. All day, I struggled with how to put into words what he meant to me and how I was feeling about the day. One of his friends wrote a beautiful tribute here which sums it up pretty perfectly. In the afternoon, I took a little time to enjoy the snowy views from the city that raised him and that he loved so much.

Three Months

My three month mark in Chicago just passed. No move is without complications, but I can honestly say I am having the time of my life right now. The first month or two were difficult of course: I got lost all the time, I missed (and still miss) my LA friends, and I doubted my decision at least once a week. In the last six weeks, things have improved immensely. I have found a fantastic group of friends to spend time with, I live in a great neighborhood, and I just feel more generally content than I have in a long time. I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I am going to go with it and enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

It’s Really Real

I’m on a plane! To Chicago! Moving day is here! Technically I should already be in Chicago, but a super late night hang session with my closest friends caused me to oversleep and miss my flight. It was totally worth it. I’m exhausted beyond belief and more than a little traumatized that I broke my computer again, but I’m so excited for the future that awaits me. Thank goodness for the iPad, in-flight wirelesss, and airport bars.

Another Adventure

Three weeks from now I’ll be in Chicago. I’m moving. It’s scary, exciting, scary, nerve wracking, scary…and for me…adventurous. I’ve lived in California my whole life except for five years in Maryland when I was a kid. I haven’t seen snow in years and the current 80 degree temps in LA have all but assured that my blood has thinned and I’ll probably be frost bitten the second I step off the plane.

Why Chicago?

Though I’ve only visited once, it’s a place I fell instantly in love with. I’m struck by how clean it is, the city feel, how much there is to do, and how friendly the residents are.

You know the weather sucks, right?

Those who know me know I actually am not a fan of the climate in LA. I truly look forward to bundling up and to having a legitimate excuse to break out my Snuggie. It is entirely possible that I will tire of this in a few months and will need to defrost and return home.

Well it’s a great city, I can’t wait to visit you!

I can’t wait to have you visit! It’s going to be a huge adjustment and friendly faces from home are greatly welcome. It’s weird to think of starting over again in my 30s. I’m not the same person I was when I came to LA all those years ago which is both good and bad. This move is going to force me to break out of the rut I’ve been stuck in the last few years and not be so stuck in my routine.

I’ll be chronicling my moving adventure both on this blog as well as my food blog. Stay tuned for updates!

Rainbow Colored Sidewalks

Life has been a bit stressful lately. After a particularly bad week, I was ready for a morning at the farmers market and some quality time with myself. As I turned the corner into the farmers market, I happened upon this brightly painted wall in front of the Natural Mind Beauty & Beyond Salon. I love the way the rainbow colored paint spilled onto the sidewalk, and seeing the bright colors against the gray backdrop of the day, instantly filled me with new energy.

As much as I love cold weather, rainy days, and bundling up in winter, there is something about spring that excites me. There are longer days, and the hope of something new. I also love spring produce and flowers. These tulips are brightening up my apartment this week. I picked up the yellow flowers from the farmers market and the pink flowers from the Flower Market in Downtown LA. I love the contrast of the bright flowers against my gray walls. Simple and gorgeous.

My new obsession. It’s helping me organize my inspiration for my new apartment.
